Fun with beans and daddy's little helper

As I have been a stay at home mom now for 3 months, I am constantly trying to think of fun/creative/inexpensive things to do at home with Carter. This past week, I used an idea courtesy of Meredith and Mckmama to let Carter play with beans. So after spending $2.50 on two bags of white/dark red beans, and gathering various household items, Carter set out to have literally hours of fun playing with the beans. He literally sat there on Friday for over an hour just scooping, dumping, raking, and burying his Little Einstein figures in the beans. Who would have thought this could be so fun. Thanks ladies for the idea. We are sure to use the beans more often!

Saturday we had originally planned on going to the Tyler Zoo. But Carter wasn't acting quite right so we decided not to make the trip. So my dear husband literally spent 7 hours outside doing yardwork, mowing, edging, and chopping down tree limbs. We don't need no stinkin lawn or tree service! By lunchtime, Carter was feeling like his old self and wanted to go outside with daddy. He is trying to be such a big helper these days. Then he went a couple of doors down and played with his buddy Junior. It was such a beautiful day. I'm glad we got outside yesterday because now it is pouring down rain. Our newly cut grass needs it though I'm sure!

Water Fun

Today, Carter and I had a playdate with his friend Harvey and my friend, his mom Katie. We went to our favorite park. They have a newly built water area which is normally not turned on until after school is out. But while we were there, I guess the city park people were testing out the water. At first, I was dreading it. I hadn't come prepared for Carter to run through the water so I took his shirt off and let him run around in his big boy underwear and shorts. He didn't venture too far into the water but he had a great time nevertheless. Thankfully I had an extra pair of clothes (now that Carter is no longer wearing diapers in public) and Katie had a towel. The boys had so much fun and Katie and I got to catch up on the happenings in our lives. Thanks Katie for a great morning and the lunch :)

Did you notice Carter's belly hanging over his shorts? He's got a dunlap! I guess he's taking after his mom :)

So Peaceful

I love Carter's naptimes. And not only because I get a little time to myself. But I also love the moments right before he falls asleep. For the past few months, he has taken his nap in our bed everyday. I'm fine with that. I think he prefers our room because it's darker and our bed is bigger and more comfortable. So 99% of days, I lay down with him for a few minutes until he falls asleep (it helps speed up the process, otherwise he's jumping around, getting out of bed, laughing, you get the idea). He ends up cuddling right up next to me and today said "Mommy, pat me" which means rub my back. I was happy to oblige and within a minute, he was fast asleep. Oh, my precious boy, you are growing up too fast.

Big News!

There is a lot going on in our house these days. In addition to finding out we are having a daughter in just 19 short weeks, we officially found out today that we are.....

MOVING!

We are moving to Colorado towards the end of the summer. It is bittersweet for me as I will be leaving the only life/place I've ever known but it is an answered prayer. Other than the health and safety of my family, I haven't prayed this hard for something in a long time. I had been feeling that God was telling me that this move was going to take place and I waited for that promise to be fulfilled. We've been waiting for a while but today, it's official. God is good. I pray this opporunity will open up new doors for Theo. He truly deserves this. God is faithful to his children.

Since this blog is not private, I won't go into details into what Theo will be doing. But feel free to call or e-mail us and I'll share the goods with whoever wants to know. Just know for now, this is definitely a good thing and an answered prayer. I'm excited because I'll only be an hour away from my best friend! Carter is also excited about moving to Colorado but I don't think he understands the family we will be leaving behind. It will definitely be bittersweet. But thank the Lord for e-mail, phones, and airplanes! Expect a lot more blogging from me after our move as this will be the main way I share our daily lives with all our family and friends.

Please keep us in your prayers over the next few weeks. We have to get our house here ready to rent, find a house there, find doctors for me/baby and Carter, and Theo is having corrective eye surgery at some point. I will be 35 weeks pregnant when we move so I'll have to find a doctor and quick! Let's pray she doesn't make an early debut. If she's anything like her daddy, she won't :) It's going to be a fast and furious summer. But I can't imagine having it any other way.
